Why You Need A Physical Exfoliator

Posted by Grace Gowdie on

Your skin naturally renews itself every 28 days.

However, as we age the renewal process can take longer, which explains why as we get older we sometimes have a dull looking complexion.

This is because we have accumulated dead skin cells and they haven't yet been shed.

Nice, right?!

Physical exfoliation is the process of using a grainy product or tool and using friction to buff away any dead skin cells. This process leaves our skin looking radiant and fresh.

Exfoliating your skin is basically giving it a good polish.

You want to remove the dead skin cells to increase clarity in your skin and also reduce fine lines, wrinkles and pigmentation.

In addition to the above, exfoliating your skin can also help unclog your pores as well as reduce oil production.

As you can see there are many benefits to exfoliation.

Now, the next step is choosing the right product.

We don't want an exfoliator that is too abrasive.

When an exfoliator is too abrasive it can actually cause mico-tears in the skin.

For example, exfoliators that contain fruit pits or nut shells can be considered too abrasive as they can be sharp or jagged which in turn can tear the skin.

Using products that contain sharp exfoliants -and cause these micro-tears- can gradually weaken the skin’s barrier, making the skin more prone to dry, flaky patches, redness, and signs of sensitivity.

If you use these products daily or scrub aggressively, the skin loses its ability to restore itself and can be quite sensitive and feel irritated.

For best results, use a gentle exfoliator up to three times a week. This will stay on top of any dead skin cells and keep your complexion looking fresh.

If you're in the market for a physical exfoliator, look for products that contain gentle ingredients.

Our Exfoliating Face & Body Scrub is extremely kind on the skin and offers a touch of exfoliation.

It won't irritate and will gently buff away any dead skin cells to reveal a healthier complexion.

Our product contains kaolin clay which has a slightly grainy texture and is considered a gentle exfoliator.

As you massage it into your skin, this exfoliating clay not only buffs away dead skin cells, it also promotes blood flow to the complexion.

Additionally, our exfoliator contains coconut flour which helps to brighten and promote a radiant skin tone.

And our last hero ingredient is the ultrafine zeolite powder. It deeply cleanses, detoxifies, protects and exfoliates your skin.

Take a look at our scrub in the image below, you'll notice just how fine the consistency is.
