We thought it would be interesting to share with you the top apps that help you decipher exactly what is in your skincare, household, personal care products at home.

1. Think Dirty
This app is free, easy-to-use and is comprehensive!
It contains over 1,730,150 products to choose from and offers incredible detail about what’s in your products and translates information easily.
Think Dirty empowers and educates the consumer on the cosmetics industry by allowing them to make an informed decision on what products to purchase.
All you need to do is either scan the product or search for the keyword, select your product or ingredient, learn about the ingredients and shop for the cleaner option.
2. Made Safe (website only)
This American company, aims to certify products you use on your body, with your family and in your home are made with safe ingredients not known or suspected to harm your health.
Their goal is to change the way products are made for the better.
They also certify products based on chemical ingredients.
3. Skin Deep (part of the Environment Working Group (EWG))
EWG's Skin Deep cosmetic database gives people practical solutions to protect themselves and their families from everyday exposures to potentially toxic chemicals in personal care and beauty products.
Skin Deep, launched in 2004, lists easy-to-navigate hazard ratings for nearly 70,000 products and 9,000 ingredients on the market.
Skin Deep claims The U.S. government doesn't review the toxicity of products before they're sold and that companies are allowed to use almost any ingredient they wish without regard for how safe they are.
The aim of Skin Deep is to fill in where industry and government leave off.
4. EWG Healthy Living
This is a bit different to skincare products, this app focuses mainly on household items and has over 128,000 products listed.
It contains some ingredients for sunscreens, make up, skincare and food but is largely focused on household items.
5. Detox Me
This app helps you identify potential sources of toxic chemicals in your home, personal care items and in your food. Whether you are looking for advice on a better dish soap, a new sofa, or alternative cleaning products, Detox Me arms you with knowledge about the dangers of certain chemicals commonly found in everyday products, such as hormone disruptors, and guides you to make safer choices.
